Dr. Toh Song Tar is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Otolaryngology and Sleep Disorders Unit in Singapore General Hospital. He is the Head of Singhealth Duke-NUS Sleep Centre. He is an appointed Adjunct Associate Professor of the National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and Duke-NUS Medical School and a Clinical Physician Faculty for the Singhealth Residency Program (ENT, General Surgery and Family Medicine). He is appointed National Examiner by Ministry of Health, Singapore and sits on the exam committee for both Master of Medicine (ORL) , NUS Graduate Medical School and Exit Exam, Joint Commission Specialist Training. Apart from his clinical work, he contributes his time as an Exco of the Singapore Sleep Society. He was the President of the Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Singapore (SOHNSS) from 2015-2017. After graduating from the National University of Singapore and completed his specialty training in Otolaryngology in Singapore, Dr. Toh obtained the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to sub-specialize in Sleep Medicine and Sleep Apnea Surgery in Stanford University, School of Medicine. He is trained as a console-surgeon in performing transoral robotic surgery (TORS) using the da Vinci robot and Medrobotic Flex system for obstructive sleep apnea and is the first to perform transoral robotic surgery tongue base reduction, epiglottidectomy for sleep apnea in Singapore and Asia.
Dr. Toh has published various scientific articles in notable peer reviewed journals including the Laryngoscope, Head and Neck, JAMA- Otoalaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, Journal of Clinical Onocology, Annals Academy of Singapore and Journal Laryngology Otology. Dr. Toh is an invited reviewer for international scientific journals including Sleep Medicine, The Laryngoscope, Archives Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology. He is the Principal Investigator of a Singhealth Foundation Grant to explore innovative surgical technique in the treatment of sleep apnea. He is often invited to speak in regional as well as international meeting and conferences. He is the course director for the annual Singapore Sleep Medicine Symposium and Snoring and Sleep Apnea Surgery Course.
