Mrs Anjana Haridas is currently a full-time NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist (eye doctor) at the Cardiff Eye Unit, University Hospital of Wales (Heath Hospital) and Bridgend Eye Unit, Princess of Wales Hospital.
Dr Anjana graduated from Cambridge, where she earned a double 1st class degree, and then Oxford University Medical School. She completed most of my ophthalmology training in the East of England Deanery and has been an ophthalmologist for 13 years.
She was fortunate to have the opportunity to complete three world-renowned oculoplastic fellowships in Cambridge, Australia (Brisbane) and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (with Professor JRO Collin in Europe’s largest eye hospital). She therefore has particular expertise in Eyelid, Lacrimal (tear drainage) and Orbital (eye socket) reconstructive surgery. Special Interests and procedures Areas of interest include eyelid cancer, thyroid eye disease and paediatric oculoplastics. The following procedures are included in her scope of work:
Eyelid and eyebrow surgery (eg upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, direct and indirect brow lifts, lid malposition surgery)
Lacrimal surgery for watery eyes or blocked tear ducts (eg external or endoscopic DCR – dacryocystorhinostomy, Lester-Jones tube)
Orbital surgery (eg anterior and posterior orbital biopsy, orbital decompression surgery, enucleation, evisceration and exenteration)
Reconstructive surgery (eg following tumour removal or trauma)
Laser eye surgery (YAG capsulotomy and iridotomy)
Research, Awards and Teaching Dr Anjana is actively involved in national and international research and has previously been awarded a Fight for Sight Award for research into Thyroid Eye Disease. She currently train international and national fellows in oculoplastic surgery. She is a member of multiple professional organisations, including BOPSS (British OculoPlastic Surgical Society).
