Dr. Michael Gluth is Director of the Comprehensive Ear & Hearing Center at the University of Chicago, where he is a Professor of Surgery. His surgical practice is limited to patients referred to him with complex ear and hearing disorders and he has particular interests in chronic suppurative otitis media and cholesteatoma, adult cochlear implantation, Meniere’s disease, lateral skull base surgery.
Dr. Gluth has received research grant funding from both private industry and the National Institutes of Health (USA). He has authored over 75 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters and he has edited two textbooks, including a comprehensive major textbook on chronic otitis media entitled The Chronic Ear. He has also designed several ossicular replacement prostheses that are commercially available.
Michael Gluth earned his medical degree (M.D.) from University of Texas and completed residency training in otolaryngology-head & neck surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He also completed a fellowship in otology & skull base surgery in Perth at the Ear Science Institute Australia with Winthrop Professor Marcus Atlas. He is a former faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he worked alongside influential ear surgeon Dr. John Dornhoffer as a colleague and protégé.
Dr. Gluth is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Neurotology Society. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Prosper Meniere Society.
