Currently Professor of Otolaryngology at Boston University Medical Center and CMO at Decibel Therapeutics. Most recently was Head of the Ear Institute and Neurotology/Skull Base Surgery for the Mt Sinai System and CMO of Frequency Therapeutics. Prior to this was Professor and Head at the Univ of Massachusetts while serving as Cochlear Corporations Chief Medical Officer. Prior to this was Professor and Program Director at the Cleveland Clinic and before that Professor and Interim Chair and Vice Chair at the Medical Univ of South Carolina. He trained in Otolaryngology at the Univ of Pittsburgh and completed his fellowship in Neurotology/Skull Base Surgery at the Univ of Iowa. He is board certified in both. In addition, he received his MBA from Duke Univ, his MD degree with distinction in research from Albany Medical College and an engineering BS/MS degree from Washington Univ in St Louis.
He has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed literature, written three books, multple book chapters and has had NIH sponsored research. He has been very active in the Academy of Otolaryngology; serving on its Board of Directors, past chairman of the Board of Govenors and many other committees, including the RUC, CPT and PERC. He has received numerous national and local honors. He serves as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Otolaryngology.
He enjoys volunteer medical missions and has performed over 2000 implants. His interests are implantable hearing devices, research to restore and protect hearing and skull base surgery.
